Trial:  Kidney transplantation - A Study Comparing an Experimental Drug versus Standard Treatment to Prevent Rejection and Reduce the Use of Steroids in Kidney Transplant Patients

Objective
  The purpose of this study is to determine if use of Thymoglobulin with rapid discontinuation of corticosteroids and maintenance (on-going, daily) immunosuppression with Tacrolimus (TAC) and Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) is as safe and effective as compared to standard care with TAC, MMF and standard corticosteroids (triple therapy).


Trial Design
  This is an “open label” study and subjects will have a 50/50 chance of either receiving standard treatment, or experimental treatment with Thymoglobulin and reduced-dose corticosteroids.


Patient Eligibility
 

Enrollment Criteria*:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Scheduled to receive a kidney transplant from a living donor
  • Must not have HIV or Hepatitis B or C
  • Must not have received any experimental drugs in the past
